Packaging equipment is frequently sold as part of a connected line rather than a single machine, so buyers want to understand line speed, container/format compatibility, and whether the equipment can be decoupled from surrounding conveyors and controls without losing function.
What we look at
- Rated line speed (units or cases per minute) and the container/format sizes it currently runs.
- Whether the equipment is standalone or integrated into a larger line with shared controls or conveyance.
- Changeover parts and format tooling included with the sale.
- Sanitary design considerations for food, beverage, or pharmaceutical applications.
- Controls platform (PLC/HMI brand) and available documentation or manuals.
- Whether format changeovers were frequent or the line ran one product configuration for most of its service life.
What to have ready
- Photos of the machine or line, including the HMI/control screen and any nameplate with model and serial number.
- Rated line speed and the container/format sizes it currently runs.

What affects marketability
- Rated speed and format compatibility relative to what buyers in that container/product category are looking for.
- Controls platform and whether documentation or program access is available to a new owner.
- Whether the equipment is a widely-used format/speed class or a specialized configuration with narrower demand.
One machine vs. multiple machines or a facility
A single packaging machine — a labeler or case packer, for instance — is usually assessed on speed, format compatibility, and condition. A full packaging line raises additional questions: which machines are physically connected, whether controls are centralized or per-machine, and whether the line can run as-is for a buyer or needs to be broken into individual machines. Either way, a description of the line sequence and photos of the equipment in place are enough to start. Lines built around a common format (a specific bottle or case size, for example) are sometimes attractive intact to a buyer running the same format, which is worth noting if it applies.
Removal and logistics
Packaging equipment ranges from tabletop units that move easily to large case-packing or palletizing systems bolted to the floor and tied into shared conveyance. Disconnecting a machine from a line typically involves separating conveyors, shared controls, and utility drops (electrical, compressed air) — usually coordinated by a maintenance team or contractor before a buyer takes possession. Noting whether equipment is floor-mounted or anchored helps us understand what removal will involve. Sanitary equipment may also need washdown and cleaning before removal, depending on the buyer's requirements and the facility's own protocols.
